More – the idea is to be spending about 2 hours a week on some combination of things that constitute CAS, and keeping a reflection journal, Facebook conversations, photos, email notes to your supervisor, or however you think you can best document your reflective journey.

STAR IN A MOVIE!
When you came to Riverstone, did you experience culture shock? Were you surprised by the informality of the classroom? Were you shocked that students called teachers by their first names? Were you stunned by our expectations that students actually think for themselves, rather than just memorize? We need you (students from the U.S. and abroad) to write, direct, film, and star in movies that we can send to new Riverstone students from your country (including local students new to Riverstone) to help them begin to adjust to Riverstone, Boise, and the U.S. culture before they arrive. This is your chance to become an international movie star over night (and help new students have an easier time adjusting to Riverstone). LOWER SCHOOL LIBRARIANS Susan Tabb (middle school parent) is re-organizing the lower school library. She would love to have 2 upper school students for 2 – 3 hours per week (you can do it all in one chunk if getting there is a problem, or if you live near by you can go in more often for less time). You can start in August. She is looking for help cataloguing what the library has, moving books, creating a file system, etc. You can bring your ideas, detailed eyes, love of books and organizational skills. Physically carrying out our recycling to the blue bins
Creating a non-plastic mug, plate and cutlery system for the school
Making sure we turn off lights and air conditioners
Examining in the packaging we use here for store products, paper, food etc
Again, this could be a terrific on-going position that is as creative and fun as your imagination makes it. UPPER SCHOOL LANDSCAPER
We’d love 1 or 2 students to take the lead in making our campus beautiful from the outside. Right now we have the beds that I (Gemma) dug and planted. But – it is hard to keep up with the weeds and these plants will need trimming in the Fall. I am totally open to having the beds re-designed. We also have other areas where raised beds could be planted and a year-round raised bed garden installed – again, the opportunities for creativity and service and action are limited only by your imaginations.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.”
Most IB schools make a point of having the IB Mission statement and the IB Learner Profile (see below) very visible on the campus.

If you search on the IBO web site you will find a video someone made describing the IB learner profile , but it seems to me our creative students could do better. So, there is a movie to be made, posters with cool photos of our kids, or a cartoon, or someone in the news who is inspiring for each of the attributes of an IB learner. This could be a fun, on-going piece of work designed to educate our community about the IB’s mission and core values. It is key since we are having our 5 year evaluation in 2010 and these ideas are the sorts of things that are very positively viewed by the IB team!!
